A TOTAL of 370 store cattle sold to a firm market at the Gin Gin sale on Monday, taking into consideration the plainer condition of most cattle.
No.1 Brahman coastal steers sold to $670/head. Karen Brown, Rosedale, sold fresh Grey Brahman steers, 15 months, for $620.
Elizabeth Shilton sold well-grown No.2 Droughtmaster steers for $540. Lewis Robb sold No.2 Grey Brahman weaner steers for $500. Jim and Vi Tapiolas sold Euro-cross weaner steers for $475.
The younger, lighter weaner steers sold from $350-$400.
Heifers sold well and in most cases as good as the steers. Lewis Robb sold well-grown heifers, 16 months for $475. Terry and June McCotter sold younger crossbred weaner heifers for $430. No big lines of cows were yarded, with the better cows going to meatworks. The better cows sold to $645.
Cows and calves were harder to shift than recent sales with values coming off the top. Phil and Kay Spencer sold older cows with small calves for $660/unit. Other mixed cows and calves from $580-$650.
