Cows in the United States are being fed cookies, marshmallows, fruit loops, orange peels, and even dried cranberries as farmers look for cheaper food sources.
The worst drought in half-a- century has ravaged this year's US corn crop and driven corn prices sky high.
Now companies are gathering up discarded food products and selling them off to farmers to keep their animals fed.
Kansas farmer Mike Yoder is feeding his herd of 450 dairy cows with ice cream sprinkles.
"It's pretty colourful, but the cows like it," he said. "Anything that keeps the feed costs down."
"Everybody is looking for alternatives," said Ki Fanning, a nutritionist with Great Plains Livestock Consulting in Eagle, Nebraska. "The big advantage is you can turn something you normally throw away into something that can be consumed."
