UK cattle and sheep slaughterings were down in August compared to last year but pig slaughterings were up.
The latest UK Slaughter Statistics from Defra, prime cattle slaughterings fell by 8.1 per cent and sheep slaughterings by five per cent.
Clean pig slaughterings for August reached 782,000 head - up by 3.1 per cnet and pig meat production reached 64,000 tonnes, 3.4 per cent higher than in 2011.
