The Doha Municipality destroyed more than 2,000 crates of eggs at various retail outlets across the city last month as they were found to have outlived their validity but were still being sold by unscrupulous stores.
A crate of eggs contains 30 pieces. Eggs are especially fragile during the summer months so must be bought with some care.

Hassad Food Company intends to invest between $500 million and $700 million this year for projects across the world as part of its mission to ensure food security for Qatar, chairman and managing director Nasser bin Mohamed Mubarak al-Fuhaid al-Hajri has said.
"Our five pillars are production and supply of rice, sugar, grain, meat (white and red) and animal feed," he explained after the company’s first ordinary general assembly meeting yesterday, 31 May, reports Gulf Times.

A demonstration project has raised hopes of improving soil conditions and of growing crops using microbial technologies in Qatar, internationally-acclaimed environmentalist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr Rajendra K Pachauri has stated.
The New Delhi-based Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), of which Pachauri is the director-general, was involved in the demonstration project in Dukhan, where “hyper-saline waste land” of about 4,000sq m was made “productive” using microbial fertilisers a couple of years ago.
Pachauri told Gulf Times yesterday that within a year of launching the Dukhan demonstration project, the physical and chemical properties of the soil were “significantly altered” and a “better ecosystem” was created as evident by the presence of earthworms, various birds and insects.

Farming in Qatar remains a challenging business not only because of harsh climatic conditions and lack of water but also because state backing to the sector is nil or negligible.
And whatever little quantities of vegetables are grown in the country also face a serious threat as farmers are switching fast to animal feed cultivation due to skyrocketing prices.
Animal feed commands almost three times the price in Qatar as in other GCC countries due to rapidly growing demand.

THE Hassad Food Group, backed by the Qatar Investment Authority, has purchased Clyde Agriculture's Clover Downs sheep station in Queensland for $18.5 million.
The Australian Financial Review reports that the deal adds to Hassad Food's $25 million Kaldbro Station acquisition in Victoria earlier this year and follows a string of high-profile farm purchases, signifying Australian agriculturual properties are in demand.

Qatar-based Hassad Food has initiated its investment in Australian agriculture with the purchase of the prized Kaladbro Estate in far western Victoria.
According to The Australian Financial Review, Hassad is backed by the Qatar Investment Authority, and chairman and managing director, Nasser Mohammed Fhaid Al Hajri said the group's investment in Australia will be for the long term as it seeks to produce livestock for overseas markets.
